Future Alumni Making a Difference: Day of Service

This weekend there will be a rush of old friends on campus as alumni return to celebrate Alumni Weekend. While we are excited to have them back (and to have the Tuck Shop cinnamon buns back in QUAD... seriously, if you haven't grabbed one already, you should... I'm pretty sure they are part of the reason that alumni come back), we should be just as excited to celebrate the accomplishments that we have made as current students.

For that reason, we should celebrate the steps that we take to make a difference in our community both on and off campus. One example of our efforts is this year's first "Day of Service."

The Day of Service was held as part of Base Camp – a program held for first year students moving into Lister Hall and Residence Saint Jean. The main purpose of the Day of Service was to help students learn and develop a connection with their local communities.  This video shares the experience of a group of students who were involved in the cleanup of Emily Murphy Park.

As a current student, and future alum, what impact do you hope to have on the community? What do you hope your legacy will be? Hit the comments and let us know!

About the Author

When I am not busy with engineering school, I love painting in abstracts. I am also a huge movie buff and will watch anything with zombies in it.

I would like to share stories that are personal and reflective of the great community we have built here at the U of A. My experience at the university so far has brought forward a tremendous amount of personal growth, and I can’t wait to help share the wonderful stories and student experiences of this amazing university.
